The need for a daily sacred practice

Creating Sacred Spacesbali-entrance-pencil

Shauna and I went to Bali a couple of years ago for a holiday. It was our first time to Bali and we just wanted to hang out and rest, do a little shopping and see the country. We found the Balinese happy and friendly. To us they appeared to be soft and gentle hearted people, who placed their Spiritual and family life first.

The majority of Balinese are Hindu and they place their spiritual lives above all things. Each house has a temple to the Gods and spirits of their ancestors; some of their sacred spaces are so large that they take up the whole top floor of their house. They fill each day with Spiritual awareness and at least 3 times a day the Balinese make a conscious connection with the Divine with offerings and prayer.

The streets were littered with little prayer parcels asking for blessings. In every doorway and place of business the blessing parcels where piled up. We could easily tell how desperate each shop was for business by how high their prayer parcels were piled.

When we landed in Bali, Shauna and I could immediately sense a change of energy in the environment, even just walking out of the plane into the airport. Bali felt calmer and more peaceful. It had a gentler type of energy, somewhat less frantic than where we live. Even though everyone drove their scooters as if there was no tomorrow, there was still this flow of life force that was neither pushed nor hurried. Life flowed through the present moment with no hurry. Continue reading

Chasing God part 2

It seems that Jesus has always been at the back of all the spiritual journeys I have taken in my search for God. My recent mystical spiritual journey was with Sri AmmaBhagavan at the Oneness University in India. Over the last 7 years I have attended all their courses on becoming awakened but again the Indian path of devotion was hard to comprehend.

What I loved about their teachings was that it was important to have a personal relationship with the Divine and that we all needed to create our own God, especially if the one you had wasn’t working for you. Dr Richard Bartlett says, ” If your higher-self is not working for you, then hire another one!”

I have always found Spirit/light in every teaching, every religion. I don’t think the Divine would leave anyone out so He/She has turned up in every culture in the forms best suited for humanity to find love and peace.

So more recently I prayed for what would be the highest form for me to identify with and you guested it Jesus and the ACIM returned fully into my life. The more I wanted the Indian Gods to be present Christ appeared. Over the last 2 years since my trip to India, where I attended a course that guaranteed I would become Awakened,  I have had a heightened experience of the Divine light that reveals all the blocks in me where I struggle to hold on to my personal self/ego.

A Course in Miracles is very clear about how love is unteachable, you don’t need to learn how to love. You are love, lovable, loved and loving. “You are as God created You” acim. However what you do have to do is remove all the blocks to loves presence. This is where all the pain and struggle arises. The altar of the heart has to be cleared of all the fear, anger judgements, worry, conflict and criticism before the Divine can enter. And it isn’t really clearing away the blocks, more like lovingly letting them go. It is the willingness to give up the struggle and resistance that allows God to reveal It-self.

This is where the path of surrender (letting go, acceptance, loving what is, forgiveness) and Divine Grace becomes paramount in taking the final steps on the journey home. One thing is for sure we can’t do it alone, that would be trying to pick up a stick while standing on it. We all need to ‘let go and let God’

Have I felt this presence? Yes many times. What has changed for me? Well I am more accepting of all my sub-personalities, I can regain my internal balance in under a half hour instead of the 3 or 4 days I would be fighting with my self. I have learnt to embrace me just as I am, ahhhh
Ram Dass says” this is where your neurosis becomes your style”.
I get through my negative stuff quicker, I forgive faster, I experience more beauty, light, wonder and feel loving kindness for my self and all that suffer on this blue orb. My wife says I am overall a happier, more peaceful individual.

I guess I have finally realised that chasing God out there is a waste of time. God sits in the light of my heart and I just need to be willing to ask for grace and surrender to the light of Divine Presence. Sounds easy but it can mean a huge journey that can take a life time. “The longest journey is the one from the head to the heart.”  The trick is to enjoy the ride.

“Entering the water he disturbs nothing
he lets the water take him
he aims for the opposite shore
and allows the current to take him there,
he emerges relaxed, no energy expended
and goes on his way.”

Chasing God

I have been on a spiritual journey for many years, not because I wanted to be holy or spiritual but because I recognized in my twenties that the answers to all my problems laid in the wisdom of the east. Christianity was, to me filled with fear and judgement, very limited in its understanding of the universe and consciousness.

It was only after I smoked some weed that my mind was released and I began to see a wider, deeper state of reality. I began reading every Buddhist and Indian philosophy book I could get my hands on. Here was an exciting world of endless possibilities. Here were universes within universes. Gods and Goddesses, masters that were fun, loving, intelligent, kind and generous with their wisdom and blessings. People who where living a magical world of miracles and everyday common sense.

God was anything you wanted Her to be, light, consciousness, Presence, beingness, bliss, Oneness and most of all love. The rules where more like guidelines helping you along the journey to become awakened, fully enlightened. The East, over thousands of years had created a road map on how to be happy and fully conscious in light and love. Their psychology was advanced with detail instructions on how to reach peace, and I loved candle[1]it all.

But there was one problem that kept showing up, I had difficulty really understanding the rituals that where meant to awaken the God within and gain His grace.

In one of my trips to India I realised that the Indians see God, as there for them, not the other way around. God is supposed to help them in family, wealth creation, health and life in general. They have no problem with demanding from God what they need.

At the same time they do all they can to entice God to show up, hence all the elaborate ceremonies to draw Him to them. The crazy thing is that it works. Doing one of these 8 hour ceremonies I was taken into a different level of awareness, the energy shifts, the energy centers open within the body/mind and a different level of reality opened to reveal love, light and an awakened intelligence not previously present.

But I realised at the same time I wasn’t Indian and I was not brought up in the culture. The little nuances of an Indian upbringing was not in my DNA blue print. No matter how hard I tried, I was a western white boy with Christian DNA. It was at this time I prayed to Jesus Christ and my prayer went like this, “OK Jesus I am willing to have you in my life but I don’t want all the christian crap. You will have to come to me in a different way, a way that entails meditation and love” and I left it at that.

Two weeks later a friend came over with a set of Books. She said that a yoga teacher we both knew had given them to her, thinking I might be able to use them. She wasn’t  interested in them and my name had popped up in her mind. The books where ‘A Course in Miracles’ (ACIM), a book channeled from Christ by a Jewish psychologist.

It pretty well covered all my criteria for how Jesus was allowed back into my life. And so started a journey that I have been on and off for 35 year. I started with the workbook, each lesson was as a daily meditation. Through these years Christ and I have had our ups and downs. The course took a back seat while I lived at the Findhorn community in Scotland. Over that 5 years it was 24 hour/ 7 days a week group encounter with 200 members. There was so much going on spiritually that I didn’t need to look at the books.

Stress is becoming an epidemic

canyon_man_1[1]You know how you feel when you have had a stressful day at home or work. Your body and mind will give you all the signals. if you are stressed, frustrated, worried and suffering from constant negative thoughts about yourself and the world on a daily bases, then it is guaranteed that your body will be showing some major signals such as illness, pain and tension.  You are not alone and most psychologists will tell you most of humanity is suffering from some degree of physical/emotional discomfort, all because of long held stress.

Stress, deep unconscious stress is now finally being recognised as a major cause of health problems.
The underlying problem is that since stress is with us all the time we get use to it and take feeling tired and irritable as a normal way of living.
Only when our emotions get out of control and swamp our minds do we consciously take note of our internal state of pain.

Short term stress isn’t the problem in fact it can save your life. It is the long term, consistent stress that wears the body system down.
The charges we carry in our brain, heart, organs, muscles and ligaments for years,
eventually cause this beautiful body/mind to become unhealthy and prone to dis-ease. Continue reading

Meditation – the peaceful addiction

I first started meditating over 40 years ago. I still meditate every day for about an hour. If I didn’t it would only take about 3 to 4 days before I wouldn’t be nice to be around. I get cranky and annoying. Like a person who has given up an addiction such as smoking or coffee, I am addicted to meditation, not because I look cool sitting on a mat but because I am addicted to the state of peace that I get from quietening my mind and giving up my resistance to feeling my emotions wash through me.
I started meditating after I had gone through a painful divorce. I had never felt so much pain as i did when my partner decided that I wasn’t good enough to spend the rest of her life with. I felt a failure, unlovable, lonely, and mildly depressed. Somehow I knew that the best thing I could do was to just sit in bed and let go my resistance to feeling my pain.
It was intense, large ache throbbing in the centre of my chest.
I decided to stay with it, breathing into my pain, letting it just ache and ache. I don’t know how long it took but eventually the pain started to drop.  It began to dissolve or resolve. That first night I learnt that resisting the pain only made it worse and that the best thing I could do was to do nothing. ‘What you resist persists’, is true when we try to get rid of our emotional pain.

Healing seminars – It is time for a healing change

Hi,
How was Your Christmas and New Year?
I don’t know about you but I am glad 2014 is over especially the last couple of months. It seems that there are still (ha!) things in my unconsciousness that need to be cleared . My ego has so many ways of keeping me busy clearing the mind blocks to Inner peace.
Last year was a powerful vehicle of change for many of us.
it was a year of looking at our shadows and becoming aware of how we all live in this world.  It was a year of consolidating what was best in us and dropping what was not.
We are all being asked to keep clearing our blocks while moving into the higher light of consciousness.
‘We are at the dawn of the golden age’ the mystics tell us. The good news is ‘that we have eternity to get it right’
This year Shauna and I are continuing to reinvent ourselves, once again.
We have had enough of suffering and struggle.
We have had enough of constantly living in a world based on stress and fear of the future.
This is not how we are meant to live, being always anxious about health, money, happiness and relationships. MA_Rob10

Mind games – creating reality

So let’s play with our minds, lets play with what we call reality, this 3rd dimension we all live in. Well we don’t really, our bodies do and hence our brains that reside within our bodies.

lotus-webHowever our mind, our consciousness, well, where it resides is up for grabs.

It is one of the big questions that science has no answer for…so far.
“What is the relationship between the mind and the brain especially regarding conscious experience?” (Ref:The Buddha’s Brain, Rick Hanson Ph.D)

When I ask people do they exist? they look at me like I am an idiot. “Of course I exist – here I am”  Where? I ask, “I am in my body, I am this separate self, a human body, separate from all others.”

Where are You in your body? Is my next question. Most will say  “I am in my head, my brain”. Oh really?

If we inquire more deeply we can pull those beliefs apart. You are the one that creates your reality, and that your body and brain create what you, the mind, hold in consciousness.

If you have beliefs that you are separate and in control of your life then these beliefs need to be shaken.  We are destroying ourselves and the environment because of our beliefs that we are separate from the rest of life and somehow in control.

Here is an example of how you depend on your connection with nature.
What are one of the first things you do in the morning before you get dressed to go out? You check the weather, to know the temperature, because you have to dress accordingly to maintain a healthy body temperature. We all know instinctively that maintaining the right body temperature is very important. So the weather has a direct effect on the body and your mind.

So our minds are separate from the body but also interdependent with the body and the outer environment down here in this third dimensional reality. The body/brain is really a space suit with a powerful inboard computer. Continue reading

it’s official: half of us are crazy

We are officially crazy, well at least 50% of us are.

Have you seen the ad during mental health week, on the ABC TV that said “1 in 2 Australians will suffer from mental illness during their life time?” It only lasted about a week before it was taken off.
Who in hell decided this percentage? Was it someone who is supposed to be sane? or did they have a committee of ‘learned people’ who decided on who has mental problems and who doesn’t. Remember a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

If 1 in 2 of all Australians suffer from mental illness, then logic would dictate that half the committee have a problem, that’s 1 in every 2 psychologists, doctors, psychiatrists, politicians, government officials, you name the professions and half the people you talk to are crazy, that’s if your not the one.

I understand the ad was to promote ‘Mental Health Week’. It is designed to help people reach out, seek help and bring awareness to the issues. I guess they are hoping people who are mentally unbalanced will seek help if they have a mental problem, but then who are they going to ask for help at least half of who they ask will also be looking for help.

These type of statistics are a joke;  they send the wrong message out. Imagine you are a teenager sitting at home watching this ad –  do you look at your parents and wonder which one is crazy or do you think you might be the one?

I believe we are all insane. I don’t ‘think’ 50% have a mental problem. I believe 99% of us have one. Just take a quick look at the world we live in. We have pretty much in my lifetime screwed up every part of this planet. Our quality of life is being slowly eroded away. Continue reading

here is a gentle loving meditation that I often use in my meditation classes. It is a graceful and loving way to connect with the Divine Presence.

Opening the Heart field with the Golden light of love.
This guided meditation may be done either sitting up or lying down. It can be done within 10 minutes if you so wish. You may record it, if you have no one to take you through the process. It can have a profound effect on reconnecting you to your own personal sense of the Divine. Blessings and loving kindness to all beings.

We begin by taking some gentle breaths in and slowly out. With each breath out we let go of the old tired energy/qi. And with each breath in we give ourselves permission to relax, let go and accept all that is.
Let the breath take you deeper and deeper as you give yourself permission to let go and relax. Feel this wave of relaxation move from the top of your head to the tip of your toes.
Each breath gives you permission to relax, unwind, let go and let be.

With your next breath in start to see or experience a golden ball of light floating above your head, a glowing sun of beauty and brilliance. This bright light flows from the core of all existence. It is the center of the entire universe, sparkling gold.

Feel this light entering you mind and filling each cell with this golden light. Each cell starts to radiate this light; each cell has a smile on its face. This light is the light of Divine joy, happiness, love and profound inner peace.

As this ball of light fills the mind and nervous system it begins its journey down into the heart. As it slowly descends it relaxes every part of the body that becomes covered in its brilliant light.

Each breath in brings the light to the spiritual heart and each breath out releases the blocks that in the past would have been holding this light from entering.
With your next breath in, see and feel the golden light fully entering the spiritual heart. The light fully embraces all aspects of the Divine heart field of love, compassion and light.

You can feel the light in the heart radiate out into every cell. The blood cells carry this wonderful light out into every organ, muscle, nerve fiber in the body/mind complex. The breath continues to draw in this cosmic light and release any old tired stuck areas.

As your body is filled with this golden light you feel yourself becoming lighter and lighter. You are lifting up, floating free and starting to walk on a golden arch that leads to a huge circle of light at the edge of the Universe.

This circle of white light calls you and as you move towards it, it also moves towards you. The light radiates out filling the whole universe and everything within it. You are filled with a loving, peaceful joyous light and you are able to immerse yourself into this Divine presence.

So for a few moments allow yourself to just sink into this living loving presence. This is the heart of the Divine. This is where all healing can occur, where all peace resides. In this brilliant presence you are able to fully rest knowing you are held and lovingly support by the Divine indwelling Presence.

You are in the heart of Divine Presence and Presence is within your heart
You and the Divine are One.

When you are ready to come back just take a deep breath, count to 3, open your eyes, be wide awake, refreshed, renew and reconnected.

Why Meditate?

I have been meditating for over 40 years. In fact I am addicted to sitting still for an hour and completely letting go into the moment.  It brings me great peace and a quiet mind.
I first started meditating because I had gone through a messy divorce (emotionally) and I wanted to get rid of the suffering and pain I was feeling. I started with the simple technique of watching my breath and allowing the pain to surface. It was very uncomfortable in the beginning to just “let it be” but the more I breathed into my pain the more it dissolved and the lightness of peace appeared.
I recognised that all my suffering was from my busy mind. My thoughts kept going over the past trying to get rid of the pain but that just seemed to cause more pain.

In Ancient Chinese wisdom of the Tao, it says that “from the One(ness) comes the two (yin/yang) and from the two comes the three and from the three comes the 10 thousand things.” This is a description of how our minds create the world.

lotus pad meditation

Quantum science now tells us that it is our thoughts that create the 3rd dimension, our world is made up of our thoughts, what they call our ‘personal perceptual bias’.

At 11 billion plus thoughts a second (right brain) we are creating our reality in the torsion field of our total consciousness. And only 7 to 12 thoughts a second are being picked up by our conscious linear thinking left brain. Continue reading
